Planning a Beijing trip

Build your Beijing stay around the distance between sights, not just the number of attractions. Keep a Great Wall excursion on a separate day from the central palace and hutong areas.

How many days should you spend in Beijing?

A three- or four-day sightseeing plan is a useful starting point for a first visit. Add arrival and departure time separately if your flights leave little time to explore. With only two days, choose your priorities instead of trying to fit every major sight into the trip.

A flexible four-day sightseeing outline

Use one day for the Forbidden City area and nearby historic neighbourhoods, one for the Great Wall, one for the Temple of Heaven and local streets, and one for the Summer Palace or another museum. This is a planning outline: reservations, opening days and your pace determine the final order.

Where to stay and how to pace the days

Choose a hotel based on your main activities and transfer arrangements. A central location can help with city sightseeing, but the Great Wall still needs a separate journey. Leave time for security checks, walking and breaks rather than planning back-to-back timed visits.

What should you confirm before booking?

Check attraction reservations for your dates and the identification required for entry. Share any walking limitations with your guide and ask which Great Wall section suits your group. Do not assume every section has the same access or transport options.
